Please have your scholar continue to practice so they are ready when it is their turn. This week: Spalding: We will have 30 new words this week. Please make sure to have your scholar write each word 3 times with markings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then write all 30 words on Thursday with no markings. Test will be on Friday! Phonograms 1-70 please make sure you are practicing by having your scholar say the phonogram sounds or have your scholar write the phonogram as you tell them the sound. Test will be on Friday! Math: We will be starting our unit on multiplication. Scholars will be able to make an array and describe how 2 sets of 6 is also a six doubled. It would be beneficial for you to start practicing multiplication flashcards with your scholar. There will be a quiz on Thursday! Science: We will continue our unit on biology. Scholars will be observing Protozoa and Amoeba from pond water. We will have a lab activity on Wednesday and a test on Friday. Grammar: We will continue to learn about the 4 types of sentences and prepositions. We will have a Quiz on Friday! The Hundred Dresses: We will be reading the last chapter on Wednesday and reviewing the book. We will have a test over the book on Thursday. Scholars are allowed to reread the entire book this week! October 28th-Picture Retake Day November 11th-NO SCHOOL It was a pleasure meeting with you last week! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to come in and discuss your scholars education! It was wonderful to feel the support! THIS WEEK: Spalding: We will have 30 new words this week. Please make sure to have your scholar write each word 3 times with markings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then write all 30 words on Thursday with no markings. Test will be on Friday. Phonograms 1-70 please make sure you are practice every night like we discussed at conferences! Test will be on Friday! Math: We will finish up our unit on measurement. We will learn how to measure with inches, feet, and yards then review meters and centimeters prior to the test on Friday! Science: We will begin a Biology Unit in science. We will be observing living organisms on a nature walk where we will use our 5 senses to make observations. Grammar: We will be studying the 4 types of sentences and prepositions. There will be a worksheet on Friday but no test this week. The Hundred Dresses: We will be reading chapters 4, 5, and 6. We will have a quiz on Wednesday over chapters 1-4. Poem: Please continue to study Furry Bear. Scholars will start reciting October 31st. As they recite to you at home, have them speak slow and clear. I am excited to start the second semester! Here is a look at the week ahead! Spalding: We will have 30 spelling words. Please dictate the 10 words on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with markings. On Thursday, please dictate all 30 words with no markings. Please remind your scholar that when taking the test they do not write the markings or syllables for the words. Test will be on Friday! Please continue to practice phonograms 1-70. If your scholar has memorized the sounds of each phonogram, switch up the practice. You say the phonogram sound and have your scholar write the phonogram you have said. Test will be on Friday! Math: In math this week we will begin a unit on measurement. Students will measure items and be able to compare two items in length. There will be a quiz on Friday! Literature: We will begin The Hundred Dresses. We will be reading chapters 1-3 and writing summaries for each chapter in class. The summaries will serve as a study guide for the end of the book test which will be in a couple of weeks. If you have not sent in your scholars copy of the book please do so by Tuesday. Time is flying by! Last week we took our MAP Test, math test on the computers. The students loved taking this test because it was on the computers! We will take this test again in January to measure our growth in math! Thank you for sending in the ear buds! We will need those again so please keep them in a safe spot. As we close out this quarter, be on the look out for a sign up genius, to sign up for parent/teacher conferences. I will be emailing it out this week! We have a busy week ahead with excitement in the air for the fall break. Please make sure your scholar has all assignments turned in by Thursday as all grades have to be entered and submitted by Friday! Here's a look at the week ahead! You say the phonogram sound and have your scholar write the phonogram you have said. Test will be on Thursday! MATH: In math this week we will continue to work on subtraction with renaming. Please make sure your scholar is showing their work! We will also review addition with carrying. There will be a test on Thursday! HISTORY: We will be wrapping up our Unit 2 studies of North and South America. Scholars need to be reading through their notes every night! They also need to study all of the maps that are glued into their journals. They will need to label mountain ranges, rivers, and the different countries we have learned about, along with answering multiple choice questions! We will review the entire unit on Tuesday and take our Unit 2 Test on Wednesday! LITERATURE: We finished The Boxcar Children. I hope your scholar brought the book home to reread and study all chapters. We will do a review of the entire book on Wednesday and take a test over the book on Thursday.
