We are almost through our first quarter! Time is flying by! We have a busy couple of weeks ahead, here are some things to keep in mind! Upcoming Events: Tuesday, September 26: PSO Night at Yogurtini-4:00-8:00 Friday, September 29: Half Day Dismissal-NO LUNCHES SERVED Friday, October 6: ATE In service- NO SCHOOL October 9-13: NO SCHOOL-Fall Break October 16-20: Half Days and Parent/Teacher Conferences Tuesday, October 26: Singapore Math Curriculum Night-6:00 This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 31 new words this week. Each night, your scholar will receive a piece of paper, in their red folder, with the 10 words that were studied in class that day. Please dictate the 10 (11 on Monday) words to your scholar 3 times in different orders. As your scholar writes the words, they need to also do the markings for each word. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding handwriting. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 30 words to your scholar and NO MARKINGS need to be done on this day. Spelling test will be on Friday! ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Scholars need to study phonograms 1-70 every night. If your scholar can say all 70 phonogram sounds, please practice having them write their phonograms as you dictate to them. Phonogram quiz will be on Friday. Math-We will begin subtraction with renaming. On Monday we will work on mental math strategies to subtract with renaming. On Tuesday we will subtract with renaming in the tens. On Wednesday we will subtract with renaming in the hundreds. On Thursday we will subtract with renaming in the tens and hundreds. There will be a quiz on Friday! ***Students should have their basic math facts through 20 memorized. It would be good practice to have your child practice math flashcards a couple of times a week. History-We will finish learning about the countries Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Uruguay, and the pampas of South America. We will have a unit review on Wednesday over the geography of the Americas and the test on Thursday. A review will come home on Wednesday, please have your student study this in preparation for the test on Thursday. Science- We will start magnetism on Friday and study it through next week. If you have any magnets or a compass I could borrow for next week, please send them in in a labeled bag, I would appreciate it! I will return them by next Thursday the 5th. Literature- We will continue reading The Hundred Dresses. There will be a quiz on Friday! Poem- We will start reciting Bed In Summer on Monday the 25th. We have been practicing in class and I am very proud of how many students already have their poem memorized! Just so you are aware, students are graded on Preparation, Memorization, Posture and Eye Contact, Clarity and Expression, and Pausing and Pacing. We will have a quiz on Friday and the Unit Test will be next week, September 29th. I have loved reading their summaries! They are getting very creative with their sentences! Literature- We will continue reading The Hundred Dresses. We will read through chapter 5 this week. Poem- We will start reciting Bed In Summer on the 25th. Can you believe that we are already half way through our first quarter? Students have been working hard to get back into routines. Our classroom marble jar is more than halfway filled! I'm looking forward to our first celebration when the jar is completely full! We have a busy four day week ahead! Here is a look at the week!

All words with no markings on Thursday. TEST on words and phonongrams will be on Friday. MATH: We will continue mental math strategies with addition and subtraction. We will also continue to work on word problems and the use on number bonds. There will be a quiz on Thursday. SCIENCE: We will have our first unit in science which will be the study of the seasons. Please make sure that your student is reviewing all notes daily and writing 2-3 sentence summaries on what they learned in science, for that day. There will be a quiz on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11. LITERATURE: We will finish The Boxcar Children. There will be a test on SEPTEMBER 8th. I also wanted to let you know that our classroom coordinator is Lisa Wilson.
