Parents,
We don't have many days left of this school year! I know our scholars are getting excited for the summer, but we are not stopping yet! There are many things we have left to accomplish together, and we will be working hard till the very end! Monday, April 23 - Family Night at Red Robin (4:00-7:00) Monday, May 7 - 2nd Grade Music Concert Friday, May 11 - Half Day, No lunches Friday, May 11 - Arts Walk Thursday, May 24 - Last Day of School This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 28 new words this week. All spelling words are to be written in cursive each night. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding cursive. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 28 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursday, but words must be written in cursive. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Please spend the extra time having your scholar say the words in syllables, spelling them on their fingers, then writing the words when practicing at home. Please let me know if your child is struggling. Math- We will continue to study graphs during the week including bar graphs and line plots. There will be a quiz on picture graphs and bar graphs on Tuesday. History- We will continue our unit on Civil Rights, including the study of Eleanor Roosevelt, Mary Mcleod Bethune, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. Please be on the lookout for character worksheets to be coming home in your child's red folder for homework! Literature- We will continue to read Charlotte's Web, chapters 6-9. This story has already brought about great conversation regarding friendship, including thoughts from Aristotle. There are three kinds of friendship. The first is friendship based on utility, where both people derive some benefit from each other. The second is friendship based on pleasure, where both people are drawn to the other’s wit, good looks, or other pleasant qualities. The third is friendship based on goodness, where both people admire the other’s goodness and help one another strive for goodness. Does Charlotte show true friendship? Does Wilbur show true friendship? What wonderful conversations we get to have when we read classical literature! Please let me know if you have any questions! Have a wonderful week! Mrs. Bejarano
