Parents,
What a wonderful first week of school! I enjoyed getting to know each one of your scholars and I am excited for the year of learning ahead! Upcoming events: Thursday, August 17th - Math Quiz Thursday, August 17th - History Quiz Friday, August 18th - Half Day Tuesday, August 22nd - Curriculum Night (6:00-7:00) Friday, September 8th - School Picture Day Please be sure all supplies are turned in this week if you have not done so already. Math workbooks and Pink Spalding Notebooks will begin to be used every day! This week: We will begin sending home weekly Spalding words. Each night, your scholar will receive a piece of paper in his or her red folder with ten words that were studied that day in class. Please dictate the ten words three times, each in a different order, to your scholar. As the words are dictated, your scholar should write the words, with the markings, in their very best handwriting. Scholars will only receive half credit on homework if the markings are not included on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Our spelling tests and phonogram tests will always be on Friday, unless we do not have school on Friday, in which they will be on Thursday. In math, we will review numbers within 1,000. We will focus heavily on our number sense and how we can use it to support counting (ex: 900 and 30 and 4 make 934.) There will be a quiz on Thursday. Please be sure to complete the assigned workbook pages each night. In history, we will begin a unit on Geography. Students will identify the continents, oceans, our country, state, city, and community. There will be a quiz on Thursday. Please be sure to complete a 2-3 complete sentence summary each night. I will be teaching summary writing during Lyceum this week. Please check summaries every night and have your scholar read through their notes every night. In literature, we will begin reading The Boxcar Children. If you have not sent a copy of this literature book in yet, please do so as soon as possible. Scholars are allowed to bring the book home and reread the pages cover in class for the day. They MUST bring their book back to class everyday! RED folders or TAKE HOME folders....This folder will be brought home every day with your scholars homework in it. It MUST be returned EVERYDAY! If you have any paperwork for me this would be the best spot to put it! YELLOW folders or GRADED WORK folders....This folder will be sent home every FRIDAY. Please take the time to look through your scholars graded work. PLEASE sign the signature page and return to school on MONDAY. AGENDAS will come home every night and have homework recorded for the day. There is no need to sign the agenda. The agenda is used as a tool for students to become responsible for recording their own homework and reminders. Email is the BEST way to contact me, [email protected]. If you ever need anything please do not hesitate to reach out! I am looking forward to partnering with you and making your scholars second grade year a wonderful learning experience!
