We are in our final month of 2nd grade! The weeks ahead are extremely busy with concerts, learning, and special moments! Please let me know if you have any questions about anything coming up!
Monday, May 7 - 2nd Grade Music Concert Friday, May 11 - Half Day, No lunches Friday, May 11 - Arts Walk Thursday, May 24 - Last Day of School This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 30 new words this week. All spelling words are to be written in cursive each night. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding cursive. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 30 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursday, but words must be written in cursive. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Please spend the extra time having your scholar say the words in syllables, spelling them on their fingers, then writing the words when practicing at home. Please let me know if your child is struggling. Math- We will continue our unit on Geometry. This week we will learn about patterns, angles, and how changing an attribution of a shape can change its pattern. There will be a unit test on Friday. Science- We will continue to learn about simple machines. The pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, and the wedge will be the machines we discuss this week along with friction. Literature- We will continue to read Charlotte's Web through chapter 19. The class absolutely loves this book! They are learning some valuable lessons about friendship, trust, and compassion! Writing/Grammar- We will be creating a key word outline from the story excerpt Peter Pan. Students will then use their outline to write 3 paragraphs. Once their paragraphs are written they will check their work using a checklist before writing their final draft! Poem- Please have your child practice the poem Furry Bear every night. The poem can be found in The Harp and the Laurel Wreath on page 41. We will start reciting the poem next Monday the 14th. I hope to see you Monday night at the concert and Friday night at the Art Walk! Mrs. Bejarano
