Monday, May 7 - 2nd Grade Music Concert Friday, May 11 - Half Day, No lunches Friday, May 11 - Arts Walk Thursday, May 24 - Last Day of School This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 30 new words this week. All spelling words are to be written in cursive each night. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding cursive. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 30 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursday, but words must be written in cursive. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Please spend the extra time having your scholar say the words in syllables, spelling them on their fingers, then writing the words when practicing at home. Please let me know if your child is struggling. Math- We will review our unit on graphs Monday with the unit test on Tuesday. Our next unit of study is on geometric shapes. We will learn about curved lines and straight lines, edges, faces, and surfaces. History- We will wrap up our unit on the Civil Rights. Monday we will study Cesar Chavez, Tuesday we will review the unit and everyone we learned about, Wednesday there will be a test. Science- We will start our last science unit on Thursday, which is the study of Simple Machines. Literature- We will continue to read Charlotte's Web through chapter 14. The class absolutely loves this book! They are learning some valuable lessons about friendship and trust. Poem- Please have your child practice the poem Furry Bear every night. A copy of the poem was sent home last week but should you need another one, please email me. The poem can also be found in The Harp and the Laurel Wreath on page 41. Writing and Grammar- We will continue to work with nouns, verbs, adverbs, pronouns, and adjectives. This week we will have copy work and dictation. We are working very diligently to be ready for 3rd grade! Please continue to practice the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division flashcards.
