Parents,
It is the last week of the first quarter! Our scholars have worked so hard, and I'm so very proud of them and everything they have accomplished this quarter. Upcoming Events: Friday, October 6: No school October 9-13: Fall Break - No school October 16-20: Half days and parent-teacher conferences Tuesday, October 26: Singapore Math Curriculum Night - 6:00 This week: There will be 20 new spelling words this week. Please dictate the 10 words to your scholar 3 times in different orders. As your scholar writes the words, they need to also do the markings for each word. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding handwriting. Markings need to be used on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, dictate all 20 words to your scholar one time. Markings are not required on Wednesday. ****Scholars need to study phonograms 1-70 every night. If your scholar can say all 70 phonogram sounds, please practice having them write their phonograms as you dictate to them. In math, we will review adding and subtracting numbers with renaming. On Monday, we will learn how to subtract from a number with a 0 (ex: 800-234). On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will review all addition and subtraction with renaming ideas. On Thursday, we will take our chapter 2 test on all addition and subtraction. ****Students should have addition and subtraction math facts with sums to 20 memorized. To support this, please have your child practice math flashcards a couple of times a week. In science this week, we will continue to learn about magnetism. Please make sure your child is studying their daily notes along with writing a 2-3 sentence summary each night. We will have a test on Thursday as well. In literature, we will finish reading The Hundred Dresses. There will be a test on the book on Thursday. There will also be a grammar quiz on the 5 parts of a complete sentence, nouns, verbs, and pronouns on Wednesday. Please let me know if you have any questions! If you did not see the parent teacher conferences sign up, I will be sending out an email tomorrow with the sign up link! Have a safe and relaxing Fall Break! Mrs. Bejarano
