This quarter has flew by! I can't believe it is the last week of September! There are a few changes taking place this week that I want you to be aware of. We will be switching our Spalding block and our Singapore Math block. Math will now be taught first thing in the morning and Spalding will be right after our first specials at 9;55. We have finished our reading tests and students will now be leveled for reading groups. The class has been reading a variety of books during reading time but now that they are leveled I will be working with them to improve their reading strategies, in a small group setting, at their instructional level. I will give you this information at conference time, which is right around the corner! This week we will be taking a math test on a computer, so please send in the ear buds I requested by Tuesday. Please just have them in a ziploc bag with your childs name on the bag. Here is a look at the week ahead! Please email me if you have any questions! [email protected] SPALDING: We will continue with 30 new words this week. Please dictate the 10 words on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with markings. Thursday dictate all 30 words with no markings. Test on Friday! Phonograms 1-70 should be practiced every night. If your student has memorized the sounds of each phonogram, switch up the practice. You say the phonogram sound and have your child write the phonogram you have said. Phonogram test is on Friday! Math: In math this week we will continue to rename in the tens and hundreds. Please make sure your student is showing their work on their homework. Some of the pages in the workbook do not have a lot of space, so you can do the problems on a piece of paper as long as you turn the paper in with the workbook. There will be a quiz on Friday. History: We will be learning about the geography of South America as we wrap up the geography of North America. Please make sure your child is reading through their notes every night. Their summaries have improved and I enjoy reading their complete thoughts! There will be a quiz on Tuesday. Literature: We will be completing the last 2 chapters in The Boxcar Children. Your child will be bringing the book home with them to reread any chapters they like. We will do a review and a test next week.

Hello! Today before assigning the homework page, we completed page 72 together as a class. The scholars are to try to do mental math on the sheet, but they can always complete the problem on a separate sheet of paper using a vertical algorithm, I just ask that they turn that sheet in so I can see their work. Scholars can always use their math tools, like number bonds or break apart to solve their problems. I always go over the homework assignment with them and usually complete a few problems with them to check for understanding. I am glad to hear you are planning to attend the math night! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
