There will be no quiz this week. Literature- We will complete the Odyssey! Every student in the class has loved this book! We have had some very interesting discussions on Odysseus and his travels. I hope they are sharing those thoughts with you at home! Writing/Grammar- We will be reviewing nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives. There will be a grammar quiz on Thursday. The students love working with money especially when they get to use play money to solve given problems. We will have a quiz on adding money on Thursday. Science- We will continue learning about life cycles. This week we will cover the life cycle of a frog and the life cycle of a chicken. We will continue to observe our lima beans (hopefully they are sprouting) and we will plant them on Friday in styrofoam cups. There will be a test on the life cycle of frogs and chickens on Thursday. Literature- We will continue reading The Odyssey. The class is thoroughly enjoying the story of Odysseus and his long journey and adventures back to Ithaca. Writing/Grammar-We will be working on key word outlines to write a summary from out excerpt reading of Little Women. Please let me know if you have any questions! Mrs. Cox and myself were trying our best to keep the room sanitized and make sure everyone was taken care of! We are now running low on Clorox wipes. If you could donate a container it would be greatly appreciated! Our class is very close to filling our marble jar for a class reward! We will take our unit test on Thursday. Students will be bringing home their reviews each night to prepare for Thursday's test. We will begin our unit on money this Friday. Science- We will begin our unit on the life cycle of plants. We will be growing and observing our own lima beans. Students will learn that plants need sunlight to grow. We will also study the life cycle of a plant and the parts of a plant. On Thursday your child will have a key word outline in their science journal. They will need to use those key words to write complete sentences for homework. There will be a quiz on Friday. Literature- We finished Cricket in Times Square and had a wonderful seminar on happiness and the characters idea of happiness from the story. This week we will start The Odyssey! Students are very excited to hear another story of the Greeks! Writing/Grammar- We will continue exploring adverbs and adjectives. Please make sure to have your child talk about what they learned from that day before they complete their homework summaries. Literature- We will continue reading Cricket in Times Square chapters 6-9. We had a wonderful seminar on what is want. We discussed the characters in the book and the wants they desire. Students discussed the importance of wanting for your Reason and not just your Appetite. It was the best seminar we have had! Writing/Grammar- We will be writing our own summaries and using a checklist to make sure the sentences include, 5 parts of a sentence, best handwriting, and make sense from the story exert we have read. I would like for the students to come home and tell you what they learned for that day before they complete their history homework. Please have your scholar complete the homework every night in their journals. There will be a review on Thursday and a test on Friday. Literature: We will start Cricket in Times Square. This week we will read chapters 1-5. Writing/Grammar: We will continue to study nouns, verbs, and adverbs. Students will be writing sentences and replacing given adverbs to an adverb of their choice. We are practicing writing beautiful sentences that include the 5 parts of a sentence: 1. Capital letter at the beginning 2. Noun 3. Verb 4. Does the sentence make sense 5. End Marks. These are good prompts to ask your child, if they have included the 5 parts of a sentence, when writing their History or Science sentences. Last week we had some issues on the playground with showing Friendship. We as a class will be practicing the virtue of friendship this week. If you have any questions please email me!
